I love history

Why? Why not?

Like Patrick, I enjoy learning history. I think it is a great way to understand why the present is the way it is. It's also fascinating to learn about our predecessors and to see the differences and similarities between their lives and ours. I, for example, really like the immigration unit we're studying right now because all of my great-grandparents were immigrants.

Here's a quote you might be interested in:
"History is the witness that testifies to the passing of time; it illuminates reality, vitalizes memory, provides guidance in daily life, and brings us tidings of antiquity." Cicero

In Fahrenheit 451, the government burns books. Without the knowledge in those books, we can't learn from past mistakes, like Patrick said. History is not only what happened in the past, but is also developing in our own lives daily. We essentially make history. It is so important to preserve our history in order to make wise decisions and be influenced positively by past examples. If we stopped learning history, we would stop learning from history, and I fear what our society would become without that.

WOah woah. I love history too, but there are limits. It awesome to see history unfold, but i do hate the way we must interpret it. There is always a strict policy in learning it. History class needs to be renovated to have a more open thought and teaching so we may have our own individual thought.

Yes, there should be room for individual beliefs, but to an extent. There are historical facts that aren't open to debate.
