Women in the draft

Currently, the Selective Service Act (more commonly known as the draft) is inactive. However, if it were to be active right now, women would not be included in the draft. Do you think women should be included in the draft? Is it okay for women to fight on the front lines?

Spencer, we had a 20 minute discussion in class about this subject and that is the only argument you have? I'm looking for something stronger, please.
Women pay taxes just like men do. A portion of these taxes finance the war. Women, thanks to Amendment 19 and the feminist movement, can now vote, work, own property, and earn their own wages. Therefore, should they not also have the responsibilities attached to these freedoms and privileges? I think one of those responsibilities is joining the draft. I understand that women are biologically different from men, but in terms of strength, some women can easily match men. I understand that rape will become a problem, but gender-separated regiments could help that. To keep the equality between men and women, women should be included in the draft.

I think that women should be drafted but that they should have a choice to go to the back or go to the front line. They should not be atomatically put in the back, that is degraded to women, we are just as capable as fighting as men are! And get this, I also think that me should have the choice to choose between the front and "back" line too because 1) that is fair and men and women are equal and 2) not all men want to fight just like not all women want to fight. Spencer as no logic, and Michelle has a good point.

Hey Sheb,

First off, I think that the draft is just plain wrong and shouldn't be activated. The glory of our wonderful (ha) country is that you have a say in what you do or don't do. Sending people off to war without asking them if they WANT to go is not acceptable. The people should choose to support their country and run the risk of losing their lives. Ultimately, it should be his or her decision.

Ashley, I absolutely agree with you. I'm just saying that if we ever, for some awful reason, have to implement the draft, women have responsibility in the war too.
