Notes in perspective

Music can be connected to nearly everything. What is a song that you can connect to yourself or your life and why? If you can't think of one, think of a song you really love. What makes it so enjoyable for you?

Oh my goodness! I just blogged the same kind of thing! How odd! Well, I personally can relate to just about any song that is thrown at me, but right now I am in love with this song "Bad Day" sung by Daniel Powter. It has just been the stroy of my life these past few weeks. Oh, and "Breathe(2am)" by Anna Nalick, I really think she could have been chaneling me for part of that song. And "Crooked Teeth" by Death Cab for Cutie, though I cannot think of how at this moment. And...ok, I think you get the picture, I love music and have begun to creaste a soundtrack to my life. What can I say?

Right now I am listening to Duran Duran's new album Astronaut and the song "What Happens Tomorrow" in particular. The song begins "Child don't you worry. It's enough you're growing up in such a hurry. Brings you down, the news they sell you. To put in your mind that all mankind is a failure." I think about teaching history and current events and all the really terrible things I ask students to consider (Hitler-types, etc.) and then I think about how at the same time I deal with 14-17-year-old young people and how even though I want them to really have realistic views of the world, I also hope that they are optimistic about the future. Don't even get me started on media and "the news they sell you." Am I one of the "sellers" too?

There's a lot of songs I could do here, but just for the sake of sanity I'll just do two...the trick is to keep breathing by Garbage and Dragosta Din Tei by O-Zone. The trick is to keep breathing is a song from the '90's that was redone with modern stuff, and the reason I enjoy it is for its flowing tune that is easy to get lost in and provoke daydreaming (the kind of daydreaming where you can get some good ideas for stories from, not mindless look-at-the-paint-dry deal) and lyrics that not only fit in with the flowing song, but almost create a setting for a story. I am a big fan of fantasy, books, storytelling stuff and so I fell quite easily in love with this one. It's a good thing to listen to when you get tired of mainstream rock/pop/almost hyper songs. Dragosta Din Tei is one of those lovely hyper songs, and it has this tune that's nearly impossible not to dance to. Also, it has been translated to several different language, the most common being non english. Because of this, nobody has heard the english version, so they just sing with the tune with no idea what it means. It sounds incredibly fun, but it's really about this guy who's just been dumped by a girl he really likes. This song relates to humanity because it sort of represents the mob mentality, where it's hard not to go along with the crowd, and nobody really understands why not to because the crowd is GOOD. Not that they really know the cause of the mob at its heart.
